Giving TuesdayYou may have noticed the term “Giving Tuesday” popping up a lot recently. Maybe you’ve even seen the hashtag #GivingTuesday on Twitter. This event is quickly becoming part of the national (and even international) consciousness. It also offers a great fundraising opportunity for nonprofit organizations.

In today’s post, we’ll provide valuable links filled with dozens of tips, ideas and insights for maximizing your nonprofit’s Giving Tuesday efforts this year.

What Is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a response to wildly popular “shopping event days” like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But instead of buying, Giving Tuesday is all about giving back. This is a day to celebrate generosity.

Here’s a short video from GivingTuesday.org with a little more on the event:

Giving Tuesday continues to grow rapidly in popularity and recognition. Last year—only the second year for the event—saw the number of participating nonprofits increase to over 10,000 (up from 2,500 in 2012). And Blackbaud reported processing $19.2 million in donations for nonprofits on Giving Tuesday 2013. View more stats from Giving Tuesday 2013 here.
